Happy New Year

We went to a block party last night at a friends house. They live on a golf course in southern Hillsborough county that was holding a night time golf tournament. It is the most stupid thing I have ever heard of or seen. The group I was with caused a major disruption in the tournament with the fireworks display that was put on by one of the neighbors. This neighbor owns a fireworks company. Not just a tent on the side of the road (although he does that too) but a professional fireworks/aerial display company. He travels around the country and does giant fireworks displays.

Last night this guy brought out 8 4X8 sheets of plywood wired with enough fire power to launch a small scale war. Everything was wired together using a single fuse. Light it once and it just runs through the whole show. One group of golfers threatened to call the police on us. When they were informed that the county had give the fireworks guy a permit for the location and the show they very begrudginly moved on after threating to sue us if they got hit with any fireworks. My buddy Dustin, of course, lobbed a few rockest in their direction to make his point. The majority of the golfers were cool and skipped whatever hole we were on.

Big bang. Lots of big bang. I've been to professional fireworks displays that didn't have this much fire power. Communities spend big bucks for what this guy just gave away last night. I heard it said that there was about 4 grand blown up last night. Economic slump?

2009 is off and running. There's a lot to look forward to and a lot to wonder about. We have an old president leaving and a new presidend taking office. There is great potential on the horizon. What are your thoughts?
